So where is this place called “Columbi-YEAH” that you wrote about inside my pedal?

October 24, 2011

So by now, you’ve figured out that since around Wave Cannon #60, we’ve really taken to personalizing our pedals. We like to remind people that these are devices made by humans…strange humans with inside jokes that sometimes aren’t funny to anyone else, who do Jame Gumb/Buffalo Bill vocal impersonations until they aren’t even remotely amusing, then they become funny again, who can put up with one person testing an Olympia with Slayer’s “South Of Heaven” along with the electro pop that Pandora has assigned to play through the stereo speakers, who sometimes decide they are going to eat Cap’n Crunch for lunch, but come back to the office with (surprisingly delicious) grocery store sushi. All of this takes place in a town Philippe sometimes refers to as “Columbi-Yeah”, at least on the good days.

Columbi-YEAH, the creation of our friend Shigeharu “Shige” Kobayashi for this simple t-shirt, carries so much enthusiasm that locally it can be worn sincerely or ironically without changing your affect. On days where the art museum is serving beer, you can wear it proudly; on your court date for an exorbitantly expensive parking ticket: ironically. But here’s the best part: you don’t have to live in Columbia to get one. Just like kids who wear Harvard hoodies at their less entitled colleges, you can front in your own town like some slumming elite who deserved better and knows first-hand the rarefied privileges of Adluh grits and pimento cheese sandwiches.
