Greenwich Wealth Managers Win Powerball Jackpot

A lawyer representing the Greenwich-based Putnam Avenue Family Trust, which won a record 4.2 million lottery payout, intends to give a "significant amount" to charity. Three Greenwich asset managers have considerably more assets to manage after claiming the 4 million Powerball jackpot Monday at CT Lottery headquarters, the largest payout by a long shot in state history.

The official winner will go in the books as Putnam Avenue Family Trust, which has three trustees, all who work at Belpointe LLC in Greenwich, described on its website as offering wealth management and real estate and legal services.

An attorney for the group said one of the trustees, Tim Davidson, bought a ticket at a Stamford gas station.

The announcement ended rampant speculation that started when lottery officials announced a winning ticket had been sold in the Nov. 2 Powerball drawing. When no ticket holder came forward, billboards across the state urged people to check their tickets.

Davidson and the other trustees, Brandon Lacoff and Greg Skidmore, appeared to be reluctant celebrities-for-a-day at a Monday press conference. They dutifully posed with an oversized check but left it to their lawyer to handle questions.

Jason Kurland, the attorney, declined to discuss the relationship among the men, other than to say they all work together. He also declined to say when the trust was formed or disclose other details, such as whether the men had bought lottery tickets previously.

"Obviously, everyone is extremely excited," Kurland said.

He said a "significant amount" will be donated to charities, although none have been selected.

"They're very philanthropic," Kurland said.

The men chose to take their winnings in a onetime cash lump sum payment, which will be worth about 3.5 million after federal and state income taxes are deducted.

Lottery officials said the winning ticket was sold at the Shippan Point Getty in Stamford. The retailer will receive 0,000 for selling the winning ticket.

The winning ticket was a Quick Pick. The numbers were 12, 14, 34, 39, 46, Powerball 36, power play 4.

The prize is the 12th-largest jackpot in Powerball history. The previous record in Connecticut was a .5 million Powerball jackpot in June 2005. Lottery officials said sales from the recent Powerball run provided .6 million to the state's general fund.
